First build in over a decade.

8700k & tuf-Z370-pro

Put it all together and it worked perfectly for about 12 hours.

Had the thought “Asus must have improved windows bios management by now.”

Updated bios through windows.

Brick. Red cpu post light comes on solid.

Took it all apart and noticed that I got a little thermal paste (arctic silver 5) on the top connectors on the board, next to the ihs. Do not know if this will kill the processor.

Cleaned everything and carefully put it back together. Still solid red cpu post light.

Nervous to do more without advice.

Can’t figure out if I killed my processor, mobo, or both.

Please help!

“Check if CPU pins are alinged (with light) or did some thermal paste ended in cpu socket?”

I inspected it was a jewelers lense. All the pins are straight, and no thermal paste got into the socket.

I have followed theinstructions, turned on the machine, and inserted the disk provided by Asus.

Nothing, no video, not even a beep.
Just the red CPU light.

I did the bios update, clicked restart now, and this.
