Hi,

I'm having a hard time choosing RAM for my 1700x. Is it really worth investing in 3200CL14/16 or anything greater than 2666mhz doesn't really make a difference? The mobo is a GA-AX370-Gaming K7. Thanks!!

Yeah, that RAM looks good but unfortunately it's not on the QVL list. Doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, and if you can find an example on the web of people getting it to work with that mobo you'd have nothing to worry about. But if you want to play it safe, here are the most reasonably priced 32 GB kits I could find on your mobo's QVL list:

3200MHz: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232482&cm_re=F4-3200C16Q-32GTZR-_-20-232-482-_-Product

2800MHz: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231824&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

I read that, but it only says DDR4-3200MHz ram kits are supposed to be more stable and overclockeable now, not that they make a greater difference in performance. Or am i missing something?

Yeah, I'm not sure if that link is relevant.

The reason fast RAM is especially important with Ryzen CPUs is that they use Infinity Fabric (AMD's name for a technology related to communication between different components within the chip), and Infinity Fabric speed is tied to the memory clock. So faster memory means faster infinity fabric means faster communication within the CPU (in addition to the normal benefits of faster memory).

Interesting. Faster in terms of frequency or timings?

Ideally both i believe, but here is a quick look at it from anandtech, it also seems that anything over roughly 3000 is at the point of diminishing returns, but its interesting none the less.

You are right about the QVL. What about Corsair LPX 3000mhz CL15? They are more reasonably priced.

The thing that called my attention about the Flare X is that the are supposedly optimized for Ryzen, whereas Corsair promotes the LPX with an Intel Platform. But it could be only marketing. Any idea?

Software development, gaming, virtualization, etc. Moreover, i lived in Argentina, and getting some components its not so easy, so i prefer to do a one time big purchase and don't buy anything for a few years.
