Installing Windows 8.

Hello,

I bought some time ago a laptop with pre-installed Windows 8 or 8.1. I gave the laptop to a friend and he installed (don't know how) windows 7. I now want to get back at the pre-installed windows but I don't know if I could just install windows 8 from a disc because I don't have an activation key. I read somewhere that the key should be somewhere in BIOS. Is it like this or do I have to buy a new version of windows 8?

There should be sticker on the laptop somwhere if not, well if he installed Windows 7 bios has accepted that Windows 7 key and its gone. Try to find the box of the laptop otherwise you cannot retrive the key for it , unless calling Microsoft. I don't Know any other options.
