I ordered the following from Newegg during the black Friday sales. I got the green check with the compatibility check on pcpartpicker so I hope everything will work. Was researching the manual on Asrock today and my neither Plextor M.2 or the Samsung drive were listed. I haven't opened them yet. Should I hope for the best or send them back and buy ones that are listed? I thought I would install the operating system on the M.2 and use the Samsung for the work drive. The Seagate drives are going to be raid 1 storage.

Thanks for taking the time to read and respond,

Are you sure you need that powerful CPU? Most video editors and processors/plugins are able to use GPU rendering. When I render something in After Effects, my CPU usage on 4790k stays at 40-60%, meanwhile GPU (GTX 980) is close to 100%.

Thanks for you input Vapour, we will try it out when my stepson gets home for Christmas .

Lauris372, not sure I will take advantage of what I am building, but thought I may get a longer life span by using a newer cpu. Thanks for your response.

I'm looking at putting together something quite similar to this for video editing and have two specific questions. (For context: I'm a total newbie at PC building etc. but am competent at researching things I'm looking into).

1. I currently use 850 EVO SSDs and am seriously considering moving up to the 960 series. Samsung rates the 960 series at having write speeds about 6X the write-speeds of the 850s (3K-3.5K MB/s vs 500-540 MB/s). Rendering videos in Premiere Pro is a big productivity bottleneck for me and if upgrading to the 960 SSDs for the increased write speeds will significantly shorten video rendering time I would seriously consider the investment. So the question is, with a solid system like the one in this post, how much of a real-world difference can I expect in terms of video rendering time when using an SSD with 3.2K MB/s write speed vs an SSD with a 540 MB/s write speed? Will the actual render time be vut down by 5/6?

2. Regarding the GPU, I am having a hard time looking into options because most GPU rankings seem to focus on gaming performance and from what I understand video editing/rendering and gaming have different GPU requirements so this question is a little less well-informed for which I apologize. Wwould the Asus - GeForce GTX 1060 3GB 3GB Dual Video Card definitely be the way to go for video editing?
Is there something else that is less costly but close in performance, or something that would outperform this for video editing without being too costly?

Thank you all for your time and insight!
