Hi, my current setup is:
CPU Intel i3-4160
GPU: RX 460 4GB
RAM: 2x 4GB DDR3 @1600Mhz
PSU: Super Flower SF-550P12XP 550W

I'm planning on upgrading both my cpu and gpu but i don't know which one to do first. (i think there will be like a 6 months gap between the first upgrade and the next one). if i upgrade my cpu i will buy a combo made out of i7 4790k, 16gb of ram and Z97 motherboard (secondhand) priced at around 350euros. And if i change my gpu i will get a Rx 580 8gb for the same price give or take 10-20euros.

any advices should i wait for the next generation of videocards, or move to DDR4?

I'd suggest keeping the money at hand and save up some more to get the CPU bundle as well as the GTX1070. The RX580 would be more power hungry at this point. On the flip side, I'd ask you what you really do on your system? If you're planning on using this as a professional work/gaming machine then the i7 would be worth the route but if it's purely gaming, you can get by with an i5 Haswell processor part and keep it at that.

Oh yeah what board are you working with now?

Your GPU is better than 1050 2gb
Do this Combo:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 3 1300X 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor (€116.41 @ Mindfactory)
Motherboard: MSI - B350M GAMING PRO Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard (€80.54 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory (€169.90 @ Mindfactory)
Total: €366.85

due to I7-4790k will require good cooler. AM4 is new and has better upgrade path.

I will upgrade to ryzen 5 1600 b350 + 16gb@2400 first because it's only 50euros more than the i7 kit and i will have 2 years of warranty aswell, and i will wait for a good sale on the 1070, thanks guys!

I would also go with the 4790K it should last a good 3/4 more years and is a much better processor than a 1300X.

With you already having a 4160 you could probably use the same board you have just might not be able to do much of a overclock but a lot of the non Z boards will allow for a BLCK overclock to some degree.
Your video card is not better than a GTX 1050 not a clue where that came form but it's about the same performance depending on the game. I never seen you mention anything about a GTX 1050 card.

I should add slightly in front, mostly for that 4 gb. I guess his mb is not overclockable, so he needs a Z97 mb. 350 euro for the combo is good choice too in the sense it can still hold quite a few years as Zerk said. I prefer new stuff and better potential upgrades. In all, 1300X will lose in gaming due to inferior single core to 4790k.
