New system shuts off with GPU fans spinning at full speed

I recently updated my 7-year-old system (specs below). First I installed a new CPU and motherboard, and everything was working fine for about a week. But today I received and installed a new GPU. Played some games for a few hours, when suddenly the screen went black and the fans got really loud. All the LEDs inside the case are still on and most of the fans are still running, and it looks like one of the two GPU fans is what's causing the noise (even though the other fan isn't spinning at all).

I understand that this is probably an overheating issue. I tried running Prime95 and generally monitoring the temps during gaming, and both the CPU and GPU never go above 70. However, at this point I can't keep the PC running for more than a few minutes - it shuts off even when idle. Could this be a problem with the old PSU? Should my first step be to swap it for a new one, or should I keep looking for problems with the CPU or the GPU?

Full-ish specs:
CPU: Core i7-7700k
CPU Cooler: CM Hyper 212 EVO
GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 Ti
Motherboard: Asus Strix Z270E
PSU: Corsair TX650W

Thanks!

have you tried updating your BIOS? and all your drivers from the support site first? the fans spinning after shutdown is a feature on your BIOS you can turn off. also uninstall AI charger if you havent yet. that one causes more issues than not.

try to give it another go once all the above is resolved.

Yeah, first step would be to check the system with another PSU. Then, the GPU. Although that PSU is enough to power the 1080ti, still its worth checking it out.

If you have another PC, maybe, plug the 1080ti in that and see if it behaves the same

Thanks for the responses! I did try that same calculator, and it seemed like 650W should be enough. Although a different calculator on Newegg said that 700W would be the minimum. Also I tried turning it on again this morning, and at this point it won't even boot, telling me to connect the GPU power (it is). So I will go pick up a new PSU this weekend.

your gpu may be bad i had a gpu and if the computer detects a hardware problem it wont boot i doubt its the power supply unless you have a lot of cards on your pc like sound eternet wireless that takes power if not then its your gpu
