Hi,
I got an Intel DZ68AF board and I'd like to know for sure whether my front/rear fan headers are PWM capable or not so I can decide whether I should buy a PWM fan hub or another Y-splitter. I couldn't find any info about them in the manual or online.

As you can see from the above pic, the mobo has 3 fan headers - CPU, front and rear. The CPU fan header only supports fan control for 4 pin fans. Based on what I've read about the DZ68BC on Intel forums, only 4-wire PWM-controlled fans can be controlled via the CPU fan header. There is no voltage scaling circuit for this header so if a 3 pin fan is plugged, it will always run at full tilt. This is how my CPU fan header works as well.

Now the other two fan headers (front and rear) can control both 3 pin and 4 pin fans. This is what another post on Intel forums mentions about these headers -
"We have a circuit that can detect the type of fan present. If a 4-wire PWM-controlled fan is detected, we utilize its inherent capability for managing is own speed based upon the PWM duty cycle delivered to it. If a 3-wire standard fan is detected, however, we control its speed using a circuit that scales the voltage delivered to the fan (again based upon the PWM duty cycle)."

Here's my experience with these headers using a Y-splitter (I use Speedfan to control my fans):
1 - If I plug in a 4 pin fan as master and a 3 pin fan as slave, I can control the 4 pin fan but the 3 pin fan runs at full speed.
2 - If I plug in the 3 pin fan as master and the 4 pin as slave, again, same as above.
3 - If I plug in two 3 pins fans, then I can control them.

So are my front/rear fan headers able to control fan speed via both PWM/voltage control or just voltage control? What the Intel forum post says about the front/rear headers along with me not being able to control the 3 pin fan when the 4 pin is also plugged in leads me to believe they might be PWM capable but I would really appreciate if someone more knowledgeable confirmed if I am right or wrong.

And if they are indeed PWM capable headers, which pwm fan hub would you recommend? Swiftech 8W PWM splitter, SilverStone PWM Hub or something else? Just need a cheap one to run a few PWM fans.

Thanks.

@Wayfall
I have already gone through that page you've linked to but I can't find anything in there which suggests whether the front and rear fan headers can control fans via PWM along with voltage. The Hardware monitoring section just mentions CPU/Chassis fan tachometer, nothing about individual pins on those headers. There's nothing in the manual either.

Unlike the CPU fan header, I can control 3 pin fans connected to the front & rear header with SpeedFan so I know its capable of voltage control. What I want to know is that when I plug in a 4 pin fan into one of those headers, is it being controlled via PWM or only voltage? My testing makes me think it has PWM capability but since I am no expert, I am seeking help here. Hope that clarifies things further.
