Hello Friends,

I was thinking of buying a custom gaming PC. I have never built one myself and I am too nervous to even try.

The local stores want to charge $125-$175 to help me build my PC once I give them the required parts.

I was thinking about getting suggestions for custom PC builders like Puget Systems, Falcon Northwest, ecollegePC.

Thanks.

To be honest you can not plug a cable the wrong way as those are molded to fit only in the right way, the tricky Part should be the front panel switches and leds, but the mobo manual is very detailed and has even pictures to help you do it the right way. The aio also comes with instructions and to be honest is not Hard at all, my wife built her on pc Just by watching me build mine.
You can do it!
Puget and Falcon do amazing work. But it's really for people with lots of money. I don't know anything about ecollegePC. Ibuypower is on the budget end of the spectrum. I think they do okay work. Do some research take your time and you can do it yourself. People have been building PCs since before the internet, it's so much easier now. There are so many build guides and tutorial videos out there. You can do it!

@grimfox Thanks for the encouragement. I do know how to install the CPU, RAM and the GPU. The problem is that I don't know what wire goes where. On top of that installing the liquid cooler seems to be tricky.
I have been watching videos on YT and not one of them clearly explains the wiring part.

@timmy_area51 I would love to build it myself if someone can supervise. I am an international student and don't know anybody who can help me with that.

I am not the sharpest tool in the shed. Maybe a little closer to an anvil. However building a PC is easy for me. Let's look at RAM.

See that little groove on the bottom? That makes it impossible to install backwards unless you are using a hammer to install. THe graphics card?

Ditto. The CPU?

It has orientation marking that let the user know how the CPU needs to be installed. But there are so many cables!!!! And they're all labeled.

There are also so many how to build a PC or how to install RAM or how to install X model motherboard. From general to specific there is a video or how-to page(s).

$125 can buy my RAM. Take it slow. Come back here or to a video if you have any doubts. We've built them before. We've been where you are. It's not very difficult if one does the proper research. Just dive in blind and......

The wiring is not so bad. Most of the plugs can only be installed in one location. And those that can be plugged in multiple places, it doesn't matter if they are plugged into device A or device B. If you aren't sure, send us some pictures. We'll have answers. You don't have to worry about killing something by plugging the wrong cable in to the wrong spot. Worst case scenario is that when you turn it on the first time, nothing happens, not because you killed it, you probably just didn't plug in a cable to a particular socket (barring dead hardware which is rare)

If you want to see some good build logs and guides on youtube, check out Jayztwocents or bitwit or linustechtips. (I'm sure others have their own favorites) They tend to do more extreme builds but the basics are all the same. Tom's recently did a couple of videos that broke down the process into very easy and kid friendly steps. Yes, they are a little cheesy, and kiddy, but they are very educational and don't skip steps.

Have contacted the Microcenter nearby and unfortunately not much of a good news.

They charge $149 to build the PC.

They would only build the PC if all the parts are bought from them. So no discounts.

OS installation is included in the $149 bill so even if I install it myself it will not make any difference.

So Microcenter is not an option anymore.

Agreed. The most complicated procedure is connecting the wires leading from the front of the case( can support audio, USB, mic, fan controller, power, sleep and reset buttons etc.) to the motherboard leads. But once again they and the leads(usually) are labeled

and following the motherboard manual is key.
