For some reason, whenever I plug in a wifi adapter (I have tried this with 3 different ones!) after awhile, either it will just stop working and make the "usb disconnected" noise and not work until I restart my PC, or it and everything else I have plugged in via usb (even if its just my mouse and keyboard) disconnect until I unplug the wifi adapter. Again, happens with all 3. My computer just seems to hate wifi adapters at the moment. I have tried removing the power saving functions and all that, and I've tried ONLY plugging in the wifi adapter and nothing else via usb, but after awhile it still just cuts out. What should I do? I'm posting this here as I feel it may be an issue with my mobo, since its been in there since 2012 when I first put together this machine. I also may just need to dust the machine more and will be doing so tonight, but I'll feel really silly if that's the solution.

Yes, back in 2012. And I've used wifi adapters in the past just fine. This has only started happening recently. Granted for about 3 years I did not use any adapters.

Here are some basic suggestions to start with:

1. Have you tried other WiFi adapters to see if they have the same issue? Could be the adapter itself.

2. Try other slots USB slots.

3. Plug a different USB device into the slot you know has disconnected before and see if the same thing happens. If it disconnects with something like a USB keyboard, that would point towards a hardware issue.

Trust me, I've tried all these things. As I said, I have tried 3 different adapters. And there are no issues with the slots themselves, have tried every slot on my mobo. Fine for everything else, but not for any of my 3 wifi adapters.

OK, so everything disconnects when you plug in a wireless adapter after a while. Everything on the USB bus. Have you also tried:

1. If your adapters came with installation CDs, making sure to install the cards using the drivers the manufacturer gives.

2. Updating the USB drivers on your system.

If you know that your USB drivers and adapter drivers are functioning, my next step would be booting to ultimate boot CD. I'd go into the Mini XP environment and enable the wireless adapter and see if I get the same issue. That would tell me if it's a Windows problem or not.
