Hi guys,

I am thinking about replacing my current MSI GTX 970 SLI setup with a single 1080 TI.

I am using an LG ultrawide 3440 x 1440 monitor, and my frames per second are usually around 30 with newly released tipple A games and medium to high settings.

I would like be able to run the new games at 60+ FPS, with high to ultra settings.

Can anyone confirm if this is a, worth the upgrade and b, will i get the performance I want.

The rest of my pc:
Z170 carbon pro motherboard
M.2 500 GB SSD as boot drive and a 2TB SSD as storage
Intel I5 6600K processor
16GB corsair ram @ 2133 Mhz.

Thank you.

1080ti is miles, and I do mean miles, better than a 970 SLI config. As said before, all of the 1070+ cards are good for 2k+, the 1080ti being one of the two cards to effectively run games at 4k/60Hz. Meaning 2k is no problem for it.

Lower power draw, less of a hassle dealing with SLI support and older drivers. You're also sitting 3 tiers higher than a GTX970 per the GPU hierarchy chart. FYI, the GTX1070 and above are more friendly with pushing pixels above 1080p. The other cards lower down have a harder time with resolutions higher than 1080p at higher detail settings.

You forgot to include your PSU's make and model as well as it's age.

I am currently using the 750W EVGA Supernova G2 power supply. I installed it in Februari 2016

Several sites state that a 1080ti is only a 20% increase in comparison to my current SLI setup. I am a bit worried that this is not worth it and I should wait for the next generation of graphics cards.
