Ryzen 5 1600 vs i5 8400

I want to upgrade my pc. I will be mostly playing cs go, pubg, cs go and I can't decide which cpu:

Here are the cpu combos:

Combo 1

CPU: intel core i5 8400
Mobo: MSI Z370 A PRO
RAM: 1x8gb crucial ddr4 2400mhz

Combo 2

CPU: Ryzen 5 1600
Mobo: Gigabyte gaming 3 ab350m
RAM: 2x8 crucial ddr4 2400mhz

I already own a gtx 950, and the prices for cpu mobo and ram are almost the same
I plan to upgrade the gpu to a 1060 or a 1070

At stock speeds (1080p) gaming, they're within 10% of each other - when paired with a GTX 1080.
Paired with lesser GPUs the gap should be closer.

I would expect performance to be near identical when overclocked and, if you want to game at higher resolutions, the gap closes even further.

Personally, I'd opt for the Ryzen building but ONLY if you can get 3000MHz DDR4 work within budget.
Ryzen chips benefit from faster memory.


All that being said; what does your existing setup look like?
Perhaps there's a way to get a bit more life out of that currently, affording you time to save additional funds for either a better configuration, or to have the new GPU at the same time.

PSU: EVGA 500b 50plus white
HDD: 500gb wd blue

Hmmm, while the i3 isn't ideal - it's still pretty relevant. 4threads and a solid 3.7GHz clock speed.

Where do you actually feel your performance suffers currently? I'd actually consider the GPU upgrade before anything else.

The PSU isn't ideal, but should be capable of running a 1060 without issue..... you could likely even find a Haswell-era i7 or Xeon for <$150.

Absolute minimum, you're looking at investing $400 in a new platform + GPU. So $600+

If you could net that Xeon for maybe $130 or so, I'd think you'd be in a great position paired with a new GPU.

Just an alternative for you to think about.

first of all, thank you for your answers.

In games like bf1 the cpu is locked at 100%, while the gpu is 30-60%
PUBG takes way too long to load, and ingame takes time to render the structures


The thing about the cpus is, I'm from Argentina, the prices of used i7 4770/4790 are almost the same as a new i5 8400,
And I can't upgrade the ram because of the 2 ram slots the h81 has are occupied, plus i don't trust used hardware from here.

I planned to sell the old pc so I could buy a new graphics card,
