Overclocking Graphics card causes screen flickering

Hey, I have been having an issue since I got my 4k monitor. Whenever I overclock my graphics card, the 4k monitor flickers whenever there is movement on the screen, such as moving a mouse or opening an application. I am currently using a mini-dp to dp cord to hook up the monitor. I can fix the flickering by using the restart.exe that came with the Custom Resolution Utility but this causes my graphics card's clock speed to be lowered either to stock or even 500mhz. I do not know what could be the cause of this though I assume it would be the graphics card or possibly the cable. I also have a 1080p monitor hooked up but even when it is disabled this issue persists.

My specs:
Radeon HD 7970 (2 mini-DP, 1 DVI-I, 1 HDMI)
AOC U2879VF 4k monitor
Cheapest Mini-DP to DP cable on newegg

Its flickering because its the graphics driver crashing. Lower your clock, its either that or you screwed up and basically broke it perm. So yeah lower some stuff, mine does the same thing, it flickers if I have anything too high, but doesn't crash windows.
If your graphics card was well binned, the maker would have offered it in an overclocked version for more money.
Anything you get past stock is gravy.
4k resolution is more demanding.

And... if you buy cheap, do not expect much; a cheap cable could be part of your problem.

I don't think this is the issue because the moment that I increase anything, be it the power limit memory clock or clock speed, it starts flickering, no matter the increase amount.
