I'm new to this so bare with me.
I have an ancient HP from 2007, 3.2ghz processor with 8 GB of RAM (ddr2).my question is that only has a pci-e x1, 2x pci and add2 slots. Was bought a egva GeForce 610 (pci-e x16) graphics card. Using a pci-e x1 to x16 adapter what performance drop will I be looking at? Just trying to make a crappy gaming computer

Solution
16 lane GPU running in one lane has huge performance drop and i don't advise to go for such GPU, even if you use an adapter.
To get the most out of your PCI-E x1 slot, use a GPU that is made to run in PCI-E x1 slot, like Zotac GT 710 PCI-E x1,
specs: https://www.zotac.com/us/product/graphics_card/gt-710-1gb-pcie-x-1
amazon: https://www.amazon.com/ZOTAC-GeForce-Profile-Graphic-ZT-71304-20L/dp/B01E9Z2D60

GT 710 has about the same performance as GT 610,
comparison: http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?gid=1556&gid2=935&compare=geforce-gt-710-vs-geforce-gt-610

But with Zotac GT 710 GPU, you can fully utilize all that GPU has to offer while EVGA GT 610 will be greatly handicapped (running at about 6% of total performance).
