I have an intel core i5 7400 7th gen,can a RAM higher than 2400Mhz by default run at that speed without overclocking it?I have a Corsair LPX vengance 8GB 2400Mhz RAM and my PC runs by default at 2133Mhz,switching it to 2400 Mhz reads it like overclocking.I would like to upgrade it to a 3000Mhz but i dont know if my board will run that at default or simple not compatible.

Thanks.

Solution
you should use the same in MHz of ram if your running 2133mhz or you will be defeating the purpose of it and your board runs up to 3866 ram 3000Mhz is compatible

What would happen if i buy the same RAM brand and model but with 3000Mhz.If thats the default speed and the board supports 2133 by default (not OC),what speed would show in my PC?

So i can sell my current rams and get the two sticks of 3000Mhz and they will show like O.C and not default?

The bad of overclocking is that the lifespan gets short, and im not a fan a overclocking things, its too much trouble and risky.even with proper cooling,i still think is the same.

In conclusion,Im just gonna keep my current ram sticks.Currently running in 2133Mhz,which is perfectly fine and enough for gaming and overall use, right?

Next time i buy a new board im gonna check twice the ram specs, the higher Mhz in default mode the better, less heat, less voltage, less risks,etc...

Thanks.
