AMD-FX-9590 4.7GHz is it worth it?

I play a lot of PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS and don't get the fps I want to see at all. Here are my specs:

Motherboard: Asus Crosshair V Formula - Z
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 960 FTW
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws XSeries 4GBx4 DDR3 1600
CPU: AMD FX(tm)-8120 Eight-Core Processor@3.11 GHz
Tower: CM Storm Trooper Full Tower
PSU: Zephyr 750 MX Series
Cooling Unit: Corsair H60 Liquid CPU Cooler

It is a rather old system so my question remains, do I try to scavenge up some money by selling this computer to buy a whole new one, or just upgrade my CPU and GPU and hope everything runs fine? I could buy a new processor but would it help my fps problems? DDR4 doesn't run on my mobo since it's a little outdated so I guess my final question to summarize it all up would be...

Do I spend a little right now to upgrade my processor which can't be used in really any other future builds due to motherboard incompatibility (buy AMD FX-9590 (OEM/Tray) @4.7GHz)?

OR

Try to sell my computer for as much as I possibly can within reason (I'm a student with a very tight budget) and upgrade to newer MoBo so I can get DDR4 ram?

I really need some advice here, thanks guys.

FX-9xxx were, is and will always be a joke.
Expensive (as it was just released), hot, slow, consumes tons of power, etc.
The platform is also already dead.

If you need a new processor, go either with Ryzen or Coffee Lake platform.

PUBG is not exactly good optimized...if you wanna know...even if you go for upgrades, you might not see the result you are expecting...although, yes, it is better if you have more powerful rig.

PUBG is still one highly unoptimized game in terms of CPU usage - so older CPUs like yours are not going to pump out many FPS.

Full system upgrade would be the best bet here. Intel 8th gen, preferably (even i3 8100 is a great pick for this game).

Hi Candyy :)

The cost to upgrade to an FX-9590 is not worth the expense even if you can score one cheap as you would also require a Cooler upgrade to MIN H105 or equivalent and an 850W Gold Certified PSU. The FX-9590 is a beast of a processor and although much maligned is difficult to attain and maintain stability especially in a hot climate.

As the AM3+ platform is now EOL (End of Life), Sell the system and put your money toward the new AM4 platform and Ryzen series CPU. I can attest to that having both systems to compare.

First install any onscreen monitoring software like a hwinfo and rivatuner. Check your cpu and gpu usage during gaming. Try to find out which of this two remains 100 or close most of the time. If it is cpu then you need a better one or the gpu.
Now the second part. Buying fx9590 is not worthy any more. It is dead platform. If you find you need a better cpu then check ryzen or coffee lake cpus. However why you want ddr4? That has almost nothing to do to pump more fps in game. Find out your bottleneck first. Update it and proceed systematically.

This is a really beginner question but, how do I overclock my CPU?
I think what I will do is overclock it until I'm able to purchase a new computer because I've been wanting to switch to Intel for a while now anyways. Don't think 'want to switch to intel' think, 'want to switch to best performance or value at the time that i am ready to switch'. If you don't know how to OC you won't get a 9xxx running stable, they are a nightmare.

Yeah I'm not planning on purchasing that processor anymore because it's a waste of money since it's dying out. I was just wondering how to overclock my current cpu and Intel seems to be the best for the price at the moment for what I can spend. I'm looking to spend around $1000 or less if possible on a new rig
