Hi, i have a HP 655 with an AMD E1-1200 processor and ATI Radeon HD 7310 integrated graphics with 4gb of RAM. Is it possible for me to change the motherboard for the one that has a E2-1800 processor and Radeon HD 7450 graphics (also from an HP 655)? So basically are they interchangeable? Also how noticeable would the performance change be?

Solution
Be aware that on a laptop, the factory pre-installed Windows is tied to the existing motherboard.

A new motherboard would therefore require you to purchase & install Windows from scratch.

I personally wouldn't consider investing any money in either of those chips. Some issues to note:

- Both those chips get blown out of the water by even second gen core i3 (low end laptop) processors from 2011.
- Motherboard would have to be sourced online for sure.
- Issues with the new board possibly not working with existing hardware, as laptops are not really designed for motherboard upgrades.
- Installation issues, laptop motherboard replacement on most laptop models is something not intended for end user, generally a task reserved for a tech trained in laptop repair, and expect to be paying more than the laptop is worth on labour/parts.

The performance difference would about 20 percent better. Can it be done yes but I'd take that money and get maybe a cheap ultrabook : )

Thank you very much for the reply.
I have already found the exact motherboard from a local seller who is willing to sell it very cheap, around 40usd (it is still in a laptop so i can check it)
I am pretty experienced in lap top repairs and hardware replacement so i would carry out the change without problems i just wasn't sure about the interchangeability of those two exact motherboards. I think that for 40 bucks a 20% performance increase is a bargain
