Hello everyone!

I'm planning to do a Lan party with friends this week-end.
I already did it successfully in the past, but only between 2 computers and It's been a long time I haven't tried with no internet at all (I've did it a tone of time with Hamachi but that's not real Lan).

As far as I know we'll have 3 computers on Windows 7 or more and planning to play good old games like Diablo II, Starcraft, Quake, Serious Sam, ... Games that should be easy to setup for lan.

Although the subject is well covered on the web, I still miss a few points:

> Is it possible to set up a Wi-Fi Home Network without a router or any kind of network access? I've heard about "ad-hoc" connection but I think I'm getting it wrong :pt1cable:

> The real question here is : is it mandatory to have a Router and some Ethernet cables to be able to communicate between the 3 computers?

I'm asking because, again, we'll be without internet for some days, so it really has to work :p

Thanks in advance!

Solution
You will require a router to handle DHCP/IP addressesing be it wired or wireless. The internet connection is not required for the router to handle internal LAN connections.
