Is it still worth upgrading my PC (it 3470 / R9 380) or is it time to consider putting together a new rig?

I bought a custom gaming PC in 2012. At the time, it was fitted with an i5 3470 CPU (seemed good mid-range future proof option) and Radeon 7850 GPU (knowing I would need to upgrade 2 years down the line). Early 2015, I upgraded the GPU to a R9 380. I'm now at a point where I'm tempted to go for another GPU upgrade, but I don't know if it's still worth it with that ageing CPU. I wonder if I should keep my money and build a new rig next year. I'm interested in VR but will wait for next gen headsets (it seems too big and too cable-y at the moment). I'm also interested in higher resolution gaming. My monitor is only 1080p 60hz but I'll upgrade when my hardware beats it. I should add that I have 8gb and a SSD + HDD and a 600w power supply.
Is this time to upgrade the GPU? Is upgrading the GPU a good idea at all? How long can I keep on with my i5 3470? Whatever my next move is, when is the right moment to do it (considering hardware and prices)?Hope you can advise me. Many thanks. Luc

Ok thank you. RX580 or 1060 both seem like good options. Can I also consider a 1070 or 1070ti or would my CPU bottleneck those? If it's the last upgrade my current PC has, I may want to send it out on a high!
Do you think the current gen cards are likely to get a pricecut soon? Would it be wise to hold on for a few more months for the next gen or cards?
