I'm planning to buy a graphics card this christmas, and to be honest I really dont know much about the topic. The 980Ti is an EVGA superclocked one, and the 1060/580 is either a MSI Gaming X, or a Strix. What confuses me is that all those cards are the same price, brand new.

I've been told 1060 is newer and better overall, but a bit of research tells me the 980ti is the most powerful. Is the older card really the better buy? or should I get one of the newer models? I game on an 1080p monitor and will be doing it for a long time.

Actual system: i7 4790T, 8gb ram, 600W evga psu.
Thanks in advance.

980ti is way better than the other two. Is it new or used? If used, need to determine the condition. New is no brainer. Old or new model is not that relevant, power and your psu can handle is most important. 600 can handle 980ti if it is a good quality unit. What model is your psu?

  • ■Nv 980Ti: much better horsepower. Doesn't like recent APIs like DX12 and Vulkan though. Power guzzler. In your case, good for a year at least, but MIGHT choke on upcoming titles (it's a very small possibility).
■Nv 1060: much more silent, power sipping card. In your case, the worst choice (not a bad choice in general though).
■Ra 580: more future-proof (better performance in Vulkan and DX12 than 1060, lower power usage than 980Ti). In your case, best choice if you can get it for less than the Ti as it can handle anything and everything @1080p, and will go on for a couple years at least.

Solution

Provided you're not overclocking the rest of your system too much, your PSU should handle the 980Ti fine.

That is not a bad PSU, but it is not the best either. There are many out there that are worse. It wont burn your house down.

Dammit, it seems like 980tis aren't being imported anymore, but the store still shows them as active. I should sue them for fake publicity. I guess I'll have to choose between the 1060 and 580. The latter has cheaper variants, so I will go with that one. Thank you all!
