A friend that I'm trusting to build my PC keeps telling me not to mix different brands of graphics cards and motherboards because there's a chance that it will damage the parts. I tried to find instances of it happening, but so far I haven't found anything. I am planning on getting this motherboard https://www.asus.com/ae-en/Motherboards/PRIME-Z270-A/ , but the Asus GPU I was originally going to buy isn't available for purchase. As as substitution I have been recommended this https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N1060AORUS-6GD-rev-10#kf GPU from different sources. Is it really dangerous to buy graphics cards and motherboards made from different manufacturers? Also could you recommend me any Gigabyte MBO within the same price range as PRIME-Z270-A. Thanks in advance

No offense, but it sounds like your friend learned what he/she knows from amateur youtube builders who themselves learned everything they knew from etc etc.

PC parts are highly standardized nowadays given that all of the different vendors build for basically 3 specific brands who each follow well documented standards: Intel, AMD and Nvidia. There is no danger whatsoever in mixing different make components such as MSI/Asus/Gigabyte/EVGA motherboards with MSI/Asus/Gig/EVGA graphics cards. The only real different point of compatibility nowadays is the socket type for the brand of CPU you have (Intel or AMD CPU). Everything else has basically 0 dependency on the brand of component that it plugs into or is plugged into it.
