So, i'm looking to get a new processor for my PC. I'm not quite sure what will fit and what won't. Anyone that can help, please do. I'd like to get a AMD Ryzen 7 1800x for it.

PC: HP Omen 870-080
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700 @ 3.4ghz
GPU: NVidia GeForce GTX 1070 8GB
RAM: 16GB (2x8GB)
Motherboard: HP 2B4B

Solution
For gaming the Ryzen is at best a side step. It will also require a new motherboard and seeing as this is a HP PC and assuming you are using the Windows licence that came with the PC then a change of motherboard will invalidate your Windows licence. Then you have the risk that HP used non standard connectors or motherboard screw layout. Bottomline upgrading PC's from places like HP can be a nightmare.

It's a Intel socket so a AMD CPU won't work, just wondering why are you looking to get a new CPU? That i7-6700 is still a great CPU by today's standards.

If you want a better CPU then the i7-7700K will fit that motherboard, you'll probably want to upgrade the BIOS to ensure compatibility.

And as long as you have good cooling you should be able to overclock as that motherboard is a Z170.

@sizzling, exactly, it's really not worth it.

If you were planning on buying a new CPU/MB why not just buy it for your friend? If you can give us a budget we can help you pick out the best price/performance. Also let us know what parts he currently has, if any.
