AsRock B85M Pro4
Intel Core i7-4790
Silicon Power DDR3 1600 8Gb
Gigabyte Radeon
R9 290 4GB GV-R929OC-4GD
HDD Seagate ST1000DM003
DVD RW AD-7260S Case Aerocool
V3X Advance
PSU Aerocool X-strıke 1100W 80+ Gold

GPU is powered by two separated detachable cables for 8 and 6 pin.
Case is equipped by two 12cm fans, one in a front for inflow and one on the side for outflow

GPU Frequency is decreased to 947 as Mem to 1200

Game: Total War Rome II - Heavy load leads to flickering, buzzing and crashing. See the screen just after flickering started and was followed by crash to black screen. GPU at 80C when crash occurs.

Game graphics set to Extreme as it hasn't caused problems delivering 45-60 fps before.

RMA is not an option.

How old is that psu?
Back when it was new it was on the avoid list due to the lower end components it used so I wouldn't be suprised if it's failing.

3 years old. However it's 80+ Gold and apparently does better than brand new Thermaltake TS 2 700W 80+ and 4 years old HEC W+ 650W 80+ Bronze.

That hec is an ok psu at best than it and the thermaltake ts2 700 is on the avoid at all costs list since it's a known psu to fail and destroy components.

Just saying that it's gold doesn't mean that it's good. Plenty of garbage psu's are gold because they passed a load test on a NEW one so if it fails 2 weeks later it will still be a gold rated psu just a bad gold rated psu.

Brought GPU down to 867, memory to 884 with power limit to +10

Seems working

Are these problems because of PSU?

So what kind of PSU is OK to have this card performing at it's 1040/1250?

Yup seems like it. The card isn't overheating when running at full speed right? (over 90 degrees).
If not it's a psu problem since it's consuming less power now. I'll look around as to what is a good psu any budget for it?

Temperatures under load are 74-87C

Before frequencies adjustment crashes occurred at 80-82C

I bought GPU for USD130 and would never look for brand new PSU for more than USD100, because I could get GTX1060 3GB for USD200 (so sad I didn't)

Dear Friends!

Could you please help me with choosing the right PSU among listed below to have this freaking GPU working?

ATX 750W Cougar STX750

ATX 750W Cougar GX-S750

(800W) FSP Epsilon

HEC Cougar CMX850 850W

All of those are trash.

Anything from tier 3 or up should do that is 600w or more.
A new psu that is really good is the seasonic focus (plus) 650w those usually go for around 60-70$.

====All of those are trash.

That's pity. I expected HEC's Couguar to be accepted.

What's wrong with those PSUs? I don't see any listed within the list to be sold within the borders of Kazakhstan.

What brands do you have acces to? Older ones like a seasonic s12II 620w will do too.

I doubt it's your PSU though, your temperatures seem a bit high but not abnormal at all.

Also, as a test, you can use AMD overdrive within the Radeon control panel to downclock (not overclock) the GPU 100Mhz just to see if it stabilizes, helps give an idea of what's happening.

800/800 downclock helps with stability and eliminates artifacts, but games are hanging when initially loading, dx errors appear.

Those listed are only available for immediate purchase.

The rest are AeroColl KCAS. Thermaltake, Huntkey and TwinMOS

This card worked with 4 years old HEC Win+ PSU 650W, but drained it to nearly death within 3-4 months. So the best option I have is HEC Cougar 1050W for 120$ which equals to this GPU's second-hand price.

What's wrong with HEC.

I am sure it's totally wrong with AMD as Nvidia 580/760/970 work well even if the rig is powered by 700W Huntkey,

Doesn't actually sound like PSU, if artifacts are appearing with underlock and the card is launching fine you have to think VRAM or card circuits supplying power to it.

It's not like getting a decent PSU is a bad move though, you will always need good power.

Well the 580/760/970 consume half/less than half of the power a 290 does (290 easily goes to 250w).

Artifacts disappear after substantial downclocking while games are tend to crash with DX error messages.

There is an idea, that R9 290(x) requires 23A while most of cheap PSU fail to deliver keeping at 21-22A. So I have already sold the GPU to guy claiming it. I will never ever approach to any of AMD products any more.
