I have an advent DT2111b I am trying reinstall window 7 on to new hard drive WD Blue 1TB following my old hard will not bootup at all
when i try to install windows from windows 7 home prmium 64bit iso disk
when i go to custom i get "Windows cannot be installed to Disk ..." When I click the "Show Details" link next to that, I see a dialog that says, "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu
the disk 0 allocated space
the format option is grayed out

i have also tied to install it from the backup disk i create when i got the computer but i get error "wim file is missing"

i have looked on the bios screen can find the disk controller (asrock h61m-dgs uefi)

any help sorting this out please

Solution
That's fine. As I said, SATA drives are generally backwards compatible.

It's a very old DDR3 motherboard. Pretty much any motherboard that supports the Intel Gen3 CPU (Eg 3770K and the like), will suffice. But good luck finding one. They are pretty old.

As Mr Paladin suggested, it'd be worth trying the drive in another computer. Perhaps a friend can let you connect the drive to his/her computer to test?

Ok, try this
After booting from your Installation media press Shift-F10
At the command prompt type
diskpart
list disk (According to your OP it's disk 0 - but just to be sure take note of the disk # of your new HDD).
Select disk x (Where x is the disk # from previous step)
clean
convert gpt
exit
exit

now try the install.

EDIT: Also, make sure your BIOS is set to AHCI mode for the SATA controller in the BIOS.

No good get a error when convert gpt

diskpart has encountered error the request could not be performed because of an i/o device error
Check the configuration setting
SATA Controller enable
SATA mode selection AND I
S.M.A.T enable

Secure boot disable
CSM enable

So, the clean seems to have worked.
Again, in diskpart...

select disk 0
create partition primary
format fs=ntfs quick
assign letter=C
active
exit
exit

If you're getting I/O errors due to a faulty SATA controller or motherboard as Paladin has suggested the above might also fail.

You do realize your motherboard only supports SATA2? That's should not be a showstopper as SATA3 drives are generally backwards compatible, but your disk will not perform at it's optimum speed.

Also, have you tried any of the other SATA ports on your motherboard?
