Hi I currently have a free sync monitor and want to upgrade my graphics card. I have a FirePro v5900 and am looking to buy a RX 580 because I have free sync. I was just wondering if buying a GTX 1070 would beat the RX 580 and freesync combination.

Prices I can buy at:
XFX RX 580 8gb
$480 AUD (fastest 580)

Inno3D GeForce GTX 1070 Twin X2, 8GB
$569 AUD (cheapest 1070)

your choice totally depends on the monitor resolution and refresh rate.
1080p@60Hz, you don't need anything beyond RX580 (cheapest with decent cooling).
1080p@100Hz or higher - GTX 1070
FreeSync is handy when the FPS is jumping all over the scale due to CPU or GPU "weakness". if you have high and stable fps, the FreeSync/G-Sync are practically pointless.
