Cant place the io shield into the case

im trying to build a gaming pc but i just cant fit in the io shield into the case. Is it me being dumb or is it a fault with the case. Case: Corsair 100r silent edition. Motherboard: Z270 a pro. Put the shield from inside of case.

DRagor is correct. You install the I/O shield from the inside of the case. Also, make sure when you install the motherboard, that none of the "fingers" around the I/O shield port openings bend and get stuck into the motherboard ports.

But it seems like the case has nothing to grip the io shield

I tried installing it on the back but it won't pop into anything

The IO shield should snap into place, push it in with a bit of force.

Well as long as it is fully seated the motherboard will hold it in place.
