So I'm upgrading from a 4770k to a 4790k, but only the old one boots up. When I have the new one installed I can feel the heat if I turn it on for 5 seconds and turn it off with no heat sync. Any ideas?

Well first off why on earth would you "upgrade" from a 4770k to a 4790k? They are th same CPU, the 4790k just does a bit better thermally and has slightly higher stock clocks. I would send it back if you can, that is a total waste of money.

If you are using a Z87 board you may need a bios update before it will support the 4790k.

It's a Asus RoG mother board, let me check the exact type.
