300w PSU + 350w GPU?

So I'm planning to replace the GPU on a 10 year old HP m8330f, it currently has a GeForce 8500 GT. My question is will the EVGA GeForce 8400 GS work on the PC even though the PSU wattage (300w) is less than the Reccomended Ammount of 350w? I don't plan on doing any gaming on it (other than Windows chess) Just Web browsing.

The 8400GS will work just fine on an HP 300W PSU. I presume you already have the 8400GS?

Pretty old, anemic card by today's standards. But if the most graphic-demanding app you use the PC for is a chess game, you're fine.

Recommended wattage is almost always overblown simply due to variations in psu quality. Could ostensibly get away with a very high quality 250w or a pretty bad 350w
