Hi Guys,

I am a mix of pissed off and disappointed, I have put together a new system i7 8700k and ASUS z370-I Strix, I have finished to installed everything and I have now seen many bios udaptes so I have decided to download the stable one and flash it, via the BIOS not via Windows of course... it read the file went to reboot and boom....nothing happened, I do have the component getting power but I see nothing.

I have restarted several time and I did put a different version of the bios in the USB port for this so called ASUS CRASH SAVER or similar... however the USB stick which has a LED it seems not powering up at all, I have also tried with the provided DVD as it was mentioned on the manual but nothing even there...

Have you got any tips on what to do? Would asus cover this in warranty? (I will still have to buy a new board but at least I can sell this one as I assume it will take a month to have it fixed).

Thank you guys, I am really pissed off, it seems such a poor motherboard for the momey, bricking itself for no reason with a stable bios download from their website is just a joke!

Solution
The diagram of the board in the manual should label those LEDs, and their location also generally aligns with their function (the CPU led would be placed adjacent to the socket, etc).

If it's possible to test with a different power supply that would be another test to run to be certain (yes, a board can power on but not start due to power supply problems). That's for the sake of being thorough, but a bricked board is a strong possibility. If ASUS will return the board, do it. It may be possible to cross-ship the boards (though they'd hold your CC info and charge for a new board if the return isn't in on time).
What exactly happens when you press the power button now (lights, fans, anything)?

Also, what is the full spec of your system?

This could be a power supply problem as much as a motherboard one. However, let's try removing and re-installing memory, or using one stick at a time (make sure it's unplugged when removing or plugging in components). Also try gently popping off the little round button battery with the system unplugged and letting it sit for a few minutes before trying to restart.

Hi Guys,

I have just removed the battery let's see... it literally got dead after updating the bios from the bios itself with its function, I would never use windows due of stability...

There is a led on the MB and it stays red... of course the pc worked fine until the update of the bios, the PSU works as the graphic card gets power and the lights on the mb (aura...) lit up.

Ram is CMK16GX4M2B3000C15 2x8gb and was working fine once again until the bios update...

I should have bought a gigabyte they have doubel bios, this ASUS is just a pice of expensive junk, they claim there is a bios reflesh in case of issue and in reality there is nothing, not even what is written on their own manual is true.

I have send them a support ticket however not that they can do miracles...

Now I wait a couple of minutes and put the battery back and let's see!

Nothing, removed the battery for a few minutes, disconnected the PSU from MB for a few minutes too, change slot of the DDR 4 (keeping only one and changing slot).

I have the two led light one red one orange (not sure what they do as there is nothing on the manual, not the "cool" led but the one that are supposed to provide information about the board).

Tried again to put the USB stick in different ports but nothing it does not get powered up...

I would assume the board is dead however why claiming there is a reflash utility when it is not?

The status led one is red one is orange (the one closer to the GPU), I was talking about the USB Stick LED as that would at least tell that the board is reading the USB stick... however it is not.

I have found the problem..................................I am an idiot that is the problem! I was not making such a rookie mistake since late 90s.....I have just re-looked at my drive were the bios CAP file was,,,,,,,,well Z270...............for f**** sake I have no clue how on hearth I have downloaded the wrong bios, funny that it did not give me any error when reading the file.

That would explain why the usb would not work or boot as probably the new bios could not control the new chipset hence USB had no power distribution, that is what I think...

Well this is a £190 mistake,,,I doubt Asus would just swap the board,,,I will call them tomorrow and explain honestly and see what they say,,,,
