Hey guys,

I’m a little confused here, I changed my board(asrock) and cpu and cpu cooler, installed everything computer boots, plays games no problem everything is good. But I go to use the rgb app asrock provides boom computer crashes right away smell of burnt plastic and won’t turn back on. I switch the board with the same model and everything works again, go into the bios see RGB settings so I click on it to change the color boom pc crashes again and won’t turn on burning smell again does this make any sense? That’s two boards dead.

My build-

CPU: I7-7700k
RAM: 16gb of ram (non rgb)
MOBO: Asrock z270 Killer SLI(RGB)
GPU: Gtx 960 4gb armor
CPU COOLER: DEEPCOOL Gammaxx Gt (RGB)
Case: Bitphenox NOVA
PSU: EVGA 650GS (GOLD)

Like I said everything works perfectly fine until I try and change the RGB Colors and the mobo instantly dies, just to put it out there the RGB is already turned on so it’s not the rgb being on that kills it, it’s just changing the color of the cpu cooler or rgb of mobo.

First, what have you got connected to the Auro RGB header on your motherboard. Is it a RGB LED strip? if so, which one? there are 5v and higher LED strips. You need one that is compatiable with Aura? Another thing, the LED strip should only go in one way. The direction makes a difference as there should be a small arrow on the LED strip end where the connector is which has to match with the Auro RGB header on your motherboard.

If you have connected your Deepcool CPU cooler RGB 4 pin to the Aura RGB header on the motherboard, was it connected in the right way as it is supported by the Aura RBG header on the motherboard...As there are two 4 pin cables coming from the CPU Deepcool cooler, one for the fan control and one for the RGB header...did you make sure you did not confuse this and put the RGB cable to the fan header or the other way around? Sorry to ask, but you never know.

I don’t have any LED strips it’s just the deepcool cpu cooler which needs a 12V header which the asrock board provides a 12V RGB header, also its impossible to miss up the two connectors they’re not the same, the cpu cooler has 3 connections in total, the cpu fan connector, the cpu fan rgb connector and the heatsink rgb connector then you have an adaptor that connects the heat sink rgb and cpu fan rgb together and has a rgb connector at the end. Note that the only one that actually has a rgb header connector at the end is the adaptor so it’s impossible to put the wrong connector in.

Also the pc ran fine both times with the rgb on both boards didn’t die, they only fried when I wanted to change the rgb color with asrock software, since the rgb header on the board is 12V I assume it’s compatible. Only other thing I can think of is this is asrock first variation of a rgb header and it’s just poorly made.

Hi. I had exactly the same problem last night with an Asrock X370 KILLER SLI. Installed everything, working normally and when i tried to open the app. boom.
Did you got RMA covered? Was anything else in your pc damaged aside from the mobo?
