Hello everyone,

I have a Buffalo HD-PNTU3 external hard disk which I use to store my photos. When I first bought it, I set up a password. Now I decided to use it with my HDTV so I need to remove the password. Does anyone have any idea how to do that please?

Thank you

Do you have your photos backed up onto another external, non-passworded, HD? If not, before you remove that password, you might want to copy those photos, using your computer of course, onto another external HD. I don't know whether or not your HD's password software not only blocks access but also "scrambles" the files using said password.

Welcome to Tom's!
Per forum rules, we cannot offer ANY help for bypassing or removing passwords or other security measures, as there is no way to verify that you are, indeed the owner of said device.

Asking if backups are made is not removing or cracking passwords, so you didn't provide any help in bypassing security.:)

This is not about bypassing anything. Rather, the OP is asking how to change a feature to allow the secure drive to be used in an alternate manner. Without knowledge of the current password, the feature can't be modified. This topic is safe to assist with.

If there is ever a question about such things, contact a moderator. Thank you.

If the OP knows the password, then removing it or resetting it should be no problem, I.E. RTFM.

If he can't remember what he set the password to, then we are back to password cracking.

I think one solution might be to take the HD, along with proof of ownership of both the OS and the computer, to a local computer fixit shop, they might be able to assist him -- because the ownership proof and the computer HD will be right there on their counter.
