Upgrading PC For Editing

Since the holiday season is coming up im looking to make some upgrades to my PC. I just wanted some opinions on what I should upgrade with a budget of $350 that would increase editing performance mainly. I was thinking about purchasing the intel i5 7500 but the only problem with that is that I would have to get a motherboard with DDR4 ram slots. I would like to have a motherboard that supports DDR3 so I could still use the ram I already have and ad onto it.

My Current Rig:
CPU - AMD FX-6300
GPU - R7 260x 2GB
PSU - EVGA 500w 80+
RAM - 12GB of Crucial ballistix DDR3 (one 4gb stick and one 8gb stick)
Motherboard - ASUS M5A78L-M

Solution
I hate to say it, but that rig is fairly low end. What you could do is put a decent CPU cooler on it and overclock the hell out of it while saving your money so that you can build you a proper editing rig. I've build several rigs and several rendering rigs and you'll want either a Ryzen 5 or an i7 and a more powerful GPU as well.

Yeah I built this rig back in 2014 for $600 lol, its bad. Problem is im running a video business and editing on this is hell and I really need to upgrade soon. Is the ryzen 5 1400 any good? It seems to be much better than my fx 6300. Also would the 1050TI be a good upgrade aswell?

While the Ryzen 5 1400 and the 1050ti are going to be a decent upgrade from what you've got, they are not what I would recommend for what you are doing. I would go with a 6 core Ryzen and AT LEAST a 1060 6gb. Also, if this is a business you might want to think about the AMD Firepro or Nvidia Quadro GPUs since they are made specifically for rendering and video editing and whatnot. Granted those GPUs are going to be more expensive, but that would be the right type of part for the job.

When you have the extra money then upgrade your GPU.

Much better then your current CPU.

That is what I was considering purchasing, but would what mcconkeymike said about getting a 6 core, the ryzen 1600x, be worth the extra $70? If so I could make room for that in my budget if it is really worth it

Well yea the 1600 would be a bit better as it has two more cores and 4 more threads, I was just trying to keep it within budget. As far as if it's worth that extra cost I'm not sure. I don't know the editing difference between those two and wouldn't know if that extra cost is justifiable.
