I have a power supply that has no active cooling whatsoever. Its cooling fan is really loud and constantly stays at one speed. I never actually feel any warm air coming out, so can I put in a resistor somewhere to slow down that fan (safely)?
Really... don't even open it up. Newer PSUs have fan speed control protocol (when i say newer... generally all already have this for about 5 years, exluding some cheaper ones maybe). If it's bothering you, you should replace the PSU. Yeah I know it's spending money, but it's better. There are many PSUs that you can get that are great and go for around 40$. Depending on what your system requires, maybe even 30$.
