So I recently upgraded my laptop to a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 gaming laptop. It has an NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1050 graphics card, a 7th gen intel core i5 processor and 8 gigs of RAM and runs games like Skyrim and CS:GO at upwards of 300 fps on ultra settings. However, when I try to play minecraft with shaders my computer seems to slow to a halt, and I dip below even 20 fps. Even without shaders, with my render distance on only 8 chunks it peaks at around 120 fps. How can I optimize this?

Solution
Its minecraft. Java was never meant to handle a mod like shaders. The game itself simply cant produce proper performance at that point. Even though your specs are on the decent side (for a laptop) youre fighting a platform that was meant to run a simple game.
Take what you can get and roll with it.
