Hi
I currently have a hp 8300 sff with these specs
i5 3470
500gb hdd
8gb ddr3 ram
240w psu

I want to put in a msi gtx 1050 ti low profile as it is all i need.i have heard that the minimum psu needed is 300w but the 1050 ti only uses 70-75. I have seen a video that shows the 1050 ti working on 240w psu but i dont know if i should take that gamble. I want to know if i shouldnt use the 240w psu what psu could i buy 400w 80plus rated that fits into the case fine.
Thanks

The issue is standards. Power supplies are made in at least two categories: standard and proprietary. Standard ATX power supply fits in a standard ATX case and connects to a standard ATX motherboard.

If you have a proprietary sized case, you might have a proprietary sized power supply and a proprietary motherboard. A standard power supply may not fit, and it may not have the right connectors for that motherboard.

A simple way to know is to look at your current power supply. Roughly what shape and size is it? Now look at some online store like Newegg, at the power supplies they have for sale. Do any of them resemble the size and shape of what you have?
