Hello I’m currently building a pc. I will be using wifi wirelessly but also a plug in connection. I was told I will need to buy and install an addition part. I’ve never heard of a network card but if someone can explain what it does and how to use it or if I even need it that would be a huge help.

Solution
if you where to get one id recommed the Asus PCE-AC88 AC3100 PCI-E Adapter... this one has moveable antennas and I use it on my gaming pc. It is integraded and connected to the motherboard, it requires a PCI -E slot on your motherboard. Also dependant on you router, wired is the fastest, albeit not always the most convienient.

If your PC is near enough to the router/modem to connect with an ethernet cable from the motherboard's LAN port, I wouldn't even bother adding WiFi capability to it. A wired connection is far superior, more stable and faster. I wouldn't dream of adding WiFi to my desktop PC, never missed it or needed it in 15 years.

Use WiFi on portable devices which is what it was primarily invented for.
