I have an hp z97 motherboard, with four ram slots. I’ve got 12 gigs of 1600mhz, and I have 16 gigs of 1333 Latin around. Is it possible to mix?

Solution
Mixing and matching RAM can be very finicky. Even if it is the same model, let alone different models. It may work and it may not work. It wont hurt to try though. But if you are just gaming, then there is really no need to go with more than 16gb of RAM. Games just don't use more than that right now so the additional RAM will just be sitting there idle.

You also want to run your RAM in sets of 2 sticks. So either 2 sticks or 4 sticks as you have a dual channel board. So dont run an odd number of sticks as it can hurt performance.

Solution
Theoretically, your mobo will simply run the RAM following the slowest one.
Slower RAM has almost 0 impact to performance.

However, mixing RAM sticks and having them compatible...well...this is only about luck...if you are lucky, they will work. The chance is quite high that they will work..I did several times already...let just say around 2 out of 3...
