Everything is plugged in right because my uncle checked who has been building computers for a long time

Processor i7-7700 Motherboard- i wont know tell i get home i forgot the exact name but its MSI

What i think happened is i slid my phone under the motherboard so it had something to have pressure against while i put in the power supply to the motherboard and it left a little bit of scratches on my phone so would that mess the motherboard up but everything works on the computer except the cpu because the light indicating something is wrong with the cpu is the only one that goes on while the other components fans turn on

Nothing comes up on the monitor either but the monitor recognizes its plugged in because when i attach it to the computer the screen turns black but then to not connected

My uncle just thinks the cpu card is dead

Which one do you guys think and what should i do?

Not knocking anybody working at Frys but, realistically, any salesperson is likely a minimum wage, retail-worker* - so there's potential for misinformation/misunderstandings, cluelessness OR, it's not unheard of to be just trying to make a sale. If you were talking to a technician or something, I'd be a little more confident (although it's still not gospel) vs "some frys guy".

For example, An H110 board is 'socket' compatible with an i7-7700 BUT, without a BIOS update, the fact it fits the socket is irrelevant.

Please provide all the specs though, include make/model of the PSU.

*Just to be clear, that's not a knock on any retail employee, any minimum wage employee or anything remotely similar*

Without knowing the specific motherboard, it's impossible to say.

If it's a Z170, H110, H170 B150 board.... it probably needs a BIOS update to support the i7-7700.

I have no idea what you're trying to explain though........ there shouldn't be any need to put anything behind the motherboard for 'pressure'.
Is it mounted in a case? Are you using standoffs?

The chances of a CPU being "dead" are really slim (relative to all other components) though. A bent pin in the socket would be more likely.

Based on the limited info, I'd speculate either a bent pin, or a lack of a BIOS update (or both).

Without knowing the FULL system spec (motherboard, RAM, PSU) it's impossible to say for sure.
