I have an asrock h97 pro4 motherboard. It wouldnt boot up at all and after replacing small 3v battery on motherboard and finding out one of my 2x4gb sticks of ram was bad I removed the bad one. Then the computer would finally boot up, but it fails windows start up. I can get to Bios settings and I can get to the error page that tries to restore my computer to a previous version. I tried that a couple times but it did nothing. I ordered new ram, but I should be able to run my pc on 1 stick right? Or is it potentially a motherboard issue.

When you replace motherboard battery, BIOS settings are changed to default ones. If they were different that they are now when you were installing Windows, it may cause Windows to be unable to load or to restore. Especially xHCI and UEFI settings are important here.
