I bought a new laptop installed a SSD and want to move the OS from the fixed disk to the SSD.

I tried the Paragon Migrate OS to SSD 5.0 but it does not work keep getting an error about a missing digitally signed driver as windows blocked it. Software cost $19 bucks.. so not sure what to do now.

Contact paragon support?
They answer email.

Or do clean install?

I've never heard anything good about that Paragon migrate.
It purports to move 'only' the OS, but I've never heard of it working.

How much space is consumed on your current drive?
If it ALL fits within the SSD, then clone the whole thing over.

If not, a clean install of the OS in the SSD. That always works.

But if you want to try the clone thing again, here:
Specific steps for a successful clone operation:
-----------------------------
Verify the actual used space on the current drive is significantly below the size of the new SSD
Download and install Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration, if a Samsung SSD)
Power off
Disconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new SSD
Power up
Run the Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration)
Select ALL the partitions on the existing C drive
Click the 'Clone' button
Wait until it is done
When it finishes, power off
Disconnect ALL drives except for the new SSD
This is to allow the system to try to boot from ONLY the SSD
Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is connected to the same SATA port as the old drive
Power up, and verify the BIOS boot order
If good, continue the power up

It should boot from the new drive, just like the old drive.
Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.

If it works, and it should, all is good.

Later, reconnect the old drive and wipe as necessary.
Delete the original boot partitions, here:

So circling back on this topic given the laptop is for my wife for Christmas... I abandoned the prior software and got a refund and ended up using a different software to migrate the Windows 10 to the SSD. I understand a fresh install is most ideal but this is how I did it. It seems to work as I have the SSD as the first drive booting. However, I noticed there is a Windows Boot Manager which was origainlly set in the first position in the boot menu in the BIOS. If I leave that as #1 and the SSD as #2 it will not boot and goes Blue Screen. So I have moved it all the way to #8 and it continues to boot just fine. Should I be concerned about Windows Boot Manager ?

The other question is now that the SSD is installed. The directions I was following from a forum post says to format the HDD and then go move user folders and set their new location to the HDD vs. using up the SSD space. I am fine with doing this but I did notice that the SSD is now named the A: drive and the HDD remains the C: drive... should I be concerned or should I change the drive labels?

Couple of issues here:

1. The 1TB HDD appears to be the C drive. Where the OS is?
This should not be, The OS should be on the 256GB SSD. That is how you get maximum performance out of tis configuration.

2. The "A" drive.
A is NOT a useful letter for a drive. Yes, you can do it, but the A and B drive letters are a legacy holdover from the 80's., when we had 1 or 2 floppy drives.
Windows will not index any drive with the letter A or B.
https://www.howtogeek.com/122891/what-are-the-windows-a-and-b-drives-used-for/

3. "then go move user folders"
Be careful how you do this. Specific procedures for specific OS's. Get it wrong, and there will be tears.
And you do NOT move the entire /Users/ folder.

#1 is still confusing for. I did the OS clone with EaseUS Todo Backup - from the best I can tell the SSD now has the OS and I have the boot set to the SSD, showing as the A drive. I didn't wipe the C drive as I am fearful of that until I confirm the SSD is working like it should. It boots really fast so I am guessing it's running of the SSD. Maybe not ??

OK...test this.
Create a small .txt file, and save it on your Desktop. Any text, just something
Power off
Disconnect the HDD
Power up
1. Does it boot properly?
2. Does that text file exist on the desktop?
3. What drive letter is assigned to this drive?

So I tired what you suggested and that didn't work.. just got a blue screen. Now, I made a windows install disk on my USB thumb drive and took out the HDD. I am booting to the USB thumb drive but cannot seem to get past a few steps for new windows install on the SSD.

When I go to install I get these two options:

The first option results in this:

The second this:

but I get stuck here and cannot move forward.

Not sure what to do now......
