Hi rexop :)

AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) needs to be enabled in Bios prior to OS installation for the correct drivers to be installed.
If it has not been enabled then this usually results in a BSOD or a black screen as you describe.
Not to worry as you can enable AHCI by a small modification in your registry. Check the following:

1. Startup "Regedit" (Windows key + R)
2. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlset / Services
3. Open msahci
4. In the right field left click on "start" and go to Modify
5. In the value Data field enter "0" and click "ok"
6. exit "Regedit"
7. Reboot and enter BIOS (Continually depress the "Delete" key while Booting)

Once in Bios look to change peripheral devices and change SATA Mode to AHCI from IDE. Differs depending on the Bios.
