Hi all,

I have been looking at parts and I am trying to get the best-bang-for-buck build. Listing a few components below from the two major component stores that i can use to order parts. Feel free to suggest anything and everything.

This is going to be a pure gaming PC. I will probably be gaming on 1080p with High settings. Looking for something that doesn't get old in like a year and then I am crying about why I bought these when i could buy something else for similar price range.

1. Motherboard: ~$100 (not really sure what's better mATX or ATX)

2. CPU: ~$180 at the local store
- Ryzen 5 1400

Maybe any other intel suggestion in the same price range? Ryzen 5 seems to be best one for its price range. Intel ones are at least $50 more with similar performance (i5 7400?)

3. GPU: ~$200 (Sadly, only GTX 1050ti is the one that's below $200 here, the AMD alternative is RX 560 but then GTX 1050ti outperforms that one so i think nvidia is a better choice in this one?)

Just found GTX 1060:

4. Tower case: under $50

5. Power supply: $50 (I noticed that PSUs state "ATX" meaning they won't fit in a mATX tower? is there any mATX PSU?)

GPU - you're probably right 1050Ti is the best you'll get for $200 definitely better than an RX560. You might be able to find a 3GB GTX1060 if you shop around but prices on newegg were all over the $200 mark. I would suggest you downgrade the CPU a bit a put another $20 towards the GPU and get the GTX1060. PSU will be the same regardless of case although I would suggest you go for at least a mid tower even if you get a mATX motherboard, it'll just give a bit more room and you shouldn't have problems fitting dedicated GPU in then. Prices are the same. I strongly suggest you do not buy a Corsair VS series PSU these are the cheapest ones corsair do and not great quality and it's one part of your system that could destroy everything else if...

Where are you? Switzerland?

Just ordered 3GB version of GTX 1060 here:

https://www.amazon.fr/Zotac-GeForce-1060-GDDR5-Amp-Experience/dp/B01NAEFCUJ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1513100042&sr=8-2&keywords=gtx+1060+zotac

Now I am down to 500ish left in my pocket. Unfortunately I can't really order anything from the US websites such as Newegg so my choices are limited. I was looking at i5 8400 for $225 roughly but that will leave me with $300 for the rest of the rig? I really can't decide between Ryzen 5, Ryzen 3, i5 8400 or i3 8100. My main concern about not choosing the AMD CPUs is that if I tried to sell my rig after 2-3 years, people are more likely to buy a rig with intel CPU than an AMD. Almost none of the prebuilt CPUs in the local stores have AMD. And if I go for intel, I don't think I'll be able to get all the items in budget, I mean only DDR4 is like $100 here.

Yeah RAM is a lot at the moment. Are you prepared to overclock your CPU? If so AMD definitely offer best value for money. Tomshardware's best pick for gaming cpu in your budget is a Ryzen 5 1400 or if you don't want to overclock or want the Intel branding an i3-8100.

I've just had a quick look on the France partpicker website and the remaining items you'll need come in at around the EUR500 mark and that's with a Z370 motherboard and i5-8400.
https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/list/QWVd3F
You should be able to pick up that for a bit less than what partpicker shows, it's not great at finding best prices but it useful for comparing different set ups.

The 8400 is a bit of a beast and probably a bit overspec for your graphics card, you'll be wanting to upgrade the GPU long before the 8400 if a gaming rig is what you're after, but it will definitely futureproof you for a good few years. Or you can go for the 8100 which will require a Z370 mobo which means you can always upgrade to an 8400 or something higher in a year or two if it suits without much difficulty.

Have a read of the review for the 8400 and see the benchmarks compared to other similar CPUs for the games you play. If you do decide the 8400 is a bit too much and decide to go with the Ryzen 5 you should be able to push it to a 1500x as it's not much more than the 1400.
