Burnt GPU or Mobo?

I've had this computer (built by me and my dad) for over 6 months now, maybe even a year. I've played PUBG on it plenty in the past, but decided to start the game up again last night after a break from it. After a few games, I hear a weird sound, computer shuts off, and tries to reboot...
1) I smell something seconds after it shuts off + tries to reboot, so I turn the power off. Burntish smell, hard to say for sure.
2) Peek through clear side wall of computer, nothing strange. Unscrew and reach inside, GPU feels hot, but nothing extremely hot, imo. I've got liquid cooling and MANY fans, so I have doubts it overheated, especially since I was in a lobby, not in an actual match.
3) Get no signal on HDMI capable (plugged into GPU/graphics card), so I plug into MOBO. I get a signal and can play around on computer, doesn't register my NVIDIA but does register the built in intel card.
4) Turn off and head to sleep to troubleshoot in AM. Wake up and turn on, screen is white and fuzzy, I can move my mouse and see a square block in the fuzz, but that's it. Restart and now it works fine, so I was worried my mobo or CPU might be screwed too?

Where do I go from here? I think my GPU is shot and I need another, but I'm not sure how to test all of this. I don't have another computer around to place parts in and see.I also surmise that since the GPU wasn't extremely hot, and I wasn't gaming, it was a sudden power surge or something, but I'm not an expert.

Specs:

MOBO: Gigabyte Tech. 70X-Gaming 7

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz

Video Card: GeForce GTX 1080 (no clue if that's what you need, that's just what I see on the card itself.)

RAM 32 GB (4 g.skill ripjaws)

All in a big Cooler Master case with MANY fans and a Corsair Link Liquid Cooling system.

Solution
You can basically attempt to see if the system starts without the GPU installed by using the onboard graphics - after making sure the motherboard shows no signs of leaks.

Like I said, not a professional here, so any suggestions on what I should be looking for? I did have to move my computer a few weeks back and besides League of Legends (not very graphically intensive, I'd say), this is the first big game I've booted up since the move. Only thing I can think is that maybe something got loose while lifting, driving, and setting down my case?

moving a water cooled system can be a nightmare... if the cooling fluid is UV reactive, turn off the lights and shine a black light in there. You can usually get one super cheap. Any leaks tend to show up right away with most cooling fluids.

I don't see any leaks, no. THe Corsair Link things also got a desktop/background program that runs, and it appears to be working as normal. I'm not positive, but I imagine if it was running out of coolant/liquid, it'd pop up on the app? Not sure if the fluid is UV reactive, going to have to check that.

That's what the liquid cooler looks like, so moving it wasn't really an ightmare, unless I missed something.

Something's fried, I agree, and I think its my graphics card. I -assume- it couldn't have been gaming since I wasn't doing anything harsh besides sitting in a PUBG lobby and chatting on discord. I'm not sure how hot a card is supposed to be, and it was definitely above warm, but it didn't seem hot enough I'd think it was an issue had it not shut off.

Computer has been working fine with the integrated graphics chip (I had my GPU still plugged in, but it wasn't registering at all. So, I decided to take it out, and still the computer is working fine. Nothing seems off, even though I had that scare this morning with the screen being gray and such. I've tried smelling every inch of my GPU, lol, but I don'tget a very strong smell, maybe a LITTLE of burnt metal? Any other places I can try to sniff before I decide to replace this GPU?

Cant see any burn marks on the GPU, but its kind of encased. Maybe if I unscrew it, but I'll never a really small head. Also, I came back from work to find my monitor doing that really weird gray screen again, so I took a picture:

The block in the picture is the mouse.
I also unplugged the HDMI from the computer and replugged, but it still had the screen, so I tried a reboot and that fixed it. Starting to think my MOBO might be in trouble too or is that just a driver issue since I'm running on the built in graphics card? Also, my MOBO is display "6f" which, I looked up correctly, means wake up from sleep mode, so the MOBO itself isn't picking up any errors.

Also was running a 1080, so my gpu could certainly be the issue seeing as they've had similar issues in past
