Confused with Chipset and BIOS....and a display issue.

Guys, I'm usually a lurker here and always find answers in older post, but I need some help with a few things. And I can't seem to get a grip on BIOS and Chipset.

Long story short. Bought my daughter a Gaming PC. Bought her the same gaming monitor that I have had for years. Asus VG278QE. For some reason, when her computer goes to sleep(I think... still trying to find when this happens) or maybe a certain website, her monitor will go completely snowy like an old anolog TV, or partially where you can still make out the screens. Sound is still there. I have swapped out my monitor and she is having the same issue with mine. So I think we can say its not the monitor.

I first started messing with the refresh rates, trying to make sure they were all the same values over windows, Graphics card, but this did not help. Also heard people saying the 144htz rate was to much for some sites, so I bumped it down to 60htz. The issue is still happening.

A little more research and I found that this could be caused by an outdated BIOS or Chipset. I've done the BIOS flash before in the past on other machines and have no issues with that. But totally confused on the Chipset and can't really find alot of info on it or how to go about installing it. When I get home,(at work researching this problem) I plan on looking at the versions and making sure they are out of date, then will update if needed.

Anyone have any ideas, i'm drawing a blank here. Do you think the BIOS or Chipset could be causing the issue with the monitor?

And again I am confused how to install a Chipset......and all I have read has confused me more.......I'm just confused. Please help. Never had to mess with the Chipset before. To be honest, I do not think i have ever updated a Chipset in ANY of my gaming rigs before.

with chipset there are a few now on new mb. the main one is the mb chipset. you can find that info on the mb box or on the mb vendor web site. the newest drivers for that chipset will be on amd web page.
other chipset are for networking and sound and the video card. none of these chipsets have bios updates. most times a video card vendor may drop a firmware update if there a bug found. most updates your looking at are motherboard bios updates. you only need to run them if there fixing an issue. and you only need to use the last one on the mb vendor web page for your mb. (make sure you get the right bios for the right mb some mb now will have rev 1.0 or 1.1 or higher. download the bios file to a usb stick and unzip it. plug the stick...

(make sure you get the right bios for the right mb some mb now will have rev 1.0 or 1.1 or higher. download the bios file to a usb stick and unzip it. plug the stick into your daughter pc and reboot and go into the bios. under the utiity tab is a bios updater. just point it to the unzip bios file. your error sounds more ike bad power supply then any other issue. check the power supply make sure it intel low power tested. when haswell came out it sleep state uses so little power that older non digital power supplys would shut down or act strange do to the low voltage on the 12v rail (same rail that powers the gpu). if the unit info says it fine see what rev and age it is. contact evga see if those units have any issue at low sleep modes with intel cpu. you can test this in the bios change the intel sleep states see if the error stops. if it does may want to contact the pc vendor for a replacement unit.

Just an update, went home and noticed that my BIOS was an older version. Since I have updated BIOS many times and comfortable doing it, I went ahead just to make sure MB was up to date before I tried anything else. The BIOS update went horribly wrong......said it was repairing, called out a few errors and fixing disc of errors. At this point, it was a prebuilt computer and only a few days old. Also after inspection of the computer.......it seems the foam packing from shipping pushed up multiple plugs and bent the pins up, and also cracked some of the plug in ports. At this point, I am not putting in any more work, and will return. The MB i believe was put under a lot of stress, and now that I know the pins and board is damage, ill just be taking it back. Thanks for the help guys.
