Hello,

I wanted to get some expert opinion on the sound that my card has been making as of late.

I bought this card from Newegg last year in November. So it's been used for about a year.

I rarely take the computer apart other than for cleaning purposes, and I don't overclock the GPU as the only game that I've been playing is WoW.

It's kind of strange that this card is making such a loud noise this early in use. I have a link to the video I recorded to share what it sounds like. https://youtu.be/wSZRgvIdZrA

I'm fairly sure that when the sound is active, the fan is not working properly because using MSI Afterburner I was able to see the temperature of the card rising exponentially (in-game).

Does anybody have an idea what's causing this and if there is fix that I can do?

Thank you in advance all! :)

Solution
It may have been greyed out because "Auto" was selected on the lower right part of the bar. Click on that to "unlock" the fan control, then try turning it up to see if the sound gets worst.

Zotac is definitely not a brand I recommend to anyone. Their customer service leaves something to be desired when you can even get through.

Hi, thanks for your answer!

Unfortunately, I don't think my card has a chip or the technology to control the fan via a software.
Apparently MSI Afterburner should be one of the software to do just that, but the option is grayed out and it says that it's probably because the card itself doesn't have what it needs to be controlled like that.

I contacted Zotac, and the online chat representative was.... unique. His reply was in broken, incomplete sentences (I only mention this because it seemed kind of unprofessional) and simply told me to email their support. But yes, I will be contacting Zotac as well to see what they say.

Thank you for that. It was set on auto and I was able to tune the fan control.

It's strange though. when I turned the computer on today after work, it wasn't making the sound, and it still hasn't. It's done this before, and the sound eventually came back after a week or two. I will contact Zotac to see if maybe I can get a replacement or a repair.

Fan problems are like that. If the berring is bad sometimes it sounds fine then sometimes it sounds terrible. You can carefully tap a fan while it's spinning to temportarily fix the rotation. I've never replaced the fans on a card before, if I see this issue the card gets RMA d
