I wasn't able to find an answer to this anywhere on the internet and I searched for it a while... I have this weird issue where my main monitor would randomly flicker on and off when typing keys while gaming. I have a feeling it is mostly because of the "A" key, but I haven't actually tested it... it might not be true. Anyway, after it flickers for a a minute or so, it eventually goes into sleep mode and starting the laptop right back gets me into sleep mode again, so I have to wait a while before I can even access the internet. Everything runs perfectly fine, except for gaming... I should add that I recently reinstalled Windows because I upgraded my hdd to an sshd. Everything worked fine for a while... This issue started occuring today. It isn't an overheating problem and my drivers are up to date.
I'd gladly read any idea, so please let me know what you think I should do.

I have an Acer laptop that isn't exactly new.

a dual monitor setup with a 1920x1080 rez attached through a 2.0 HDMI cable monitor and a 1366x768 rez on the laptop monitor. They both run at 60 Hz
4 gb DDR 3 memory
i3 second generation clocked at 2.20 Ghz
Windows 7 Service pack 1
Nvidia GeForce 620M

It looks more like a overheating problem to me.

I am not an expert but as you are using a laptop for gaming. Your gpu could be over heating, and as a result your pc is either reducing the voltage going to your GPU or shutting itself down. The reason it is not turning on unless you wait a while could also be caused by the same reason. It is too hot to operate, so it is shutting down again.
You can check whether you have such problems by downloading GPU/CPU temperature monitoring software.
For example, you can use this program to monitor your system temperatures: http://openhardwaremonitor.org/

I advise you to take your computer to a computer repair shop and ask them to clean the fans and renew the thermal paste/gel. You can do it yourself but you are going to have a hard time if you are not experienced with electronics (also you can damage the components).

Hello ! It is not a cable issue. I have tested gaming on the laptop monitor as a single monitor setup and it also happens. The laptop monitor flickers when I'm pressing keys... and I press lots of keys. The attached monitor never has issues.

I regularly clean the fans myself and as I stated previously, it is not an overheat issue. The CPU maintains 51 degrees and the GPU 41. The laptop remains cool all the time. The game I play (League of Legends) runs perfectly at max settings until I press tons of keys in teamfights or in lane. It then maintains eighty FPS, but the monitor screen starts flickering and the PC will then go into sleep mode. It is really weird, considering that the monitor I use for gaming is the other one, that has no issue. the only one that flickers is the laptop monitor.
I started thinking it was a keyboard failure, but as it seems because I'm typing this very comment using the laptop, it is not.
Thanks, though.
