Apologies if this is in the wrong forum.

PC Specs: Intel quad-core i5 3.4 GHz, MSI z77A-G45 mobo, 2x8GB DDR3, Radeon HD7850 2 GB, 1TB Western Digital HDD

Originally built out in 11/2012. PC started with Windows 7 Home, but I recently upgraded to Windows 10 Home (64bit). The original HDD started getting bad sectors and failed a few weeks ago.
So, I bought a SanDisk Ultra II 480GB SATA III SSD and created a Windows 10 bootable USB drive from my laptop.

I attempted to install and got an error saying the disk was not compatible with my hardware. I thought that was strange, as I know my mobo is Sata III capable.

So I went into diskpart and was able to see, clean, and create a primary partition on the SSD drive. It hung on formatting, and I was eventually forced to reset the machine.

I tried again, with similar messages on the install screen. Went back into disk part, and started receiving error messages about an I/O error. At this point, I figured I got a bad unit and ordered a replacement from Amazon.

Second one arrives, and I experienced very similar circumstances when attempting to install. This time I get an error in diskpart when attempting to clean the drive. More errors in the windows installer. I proceed to scratch my head.

The pictures I took are from the second attempt at installing.

Any ideas of what’s causing these issues? Thanks.

You seem to be running into a compatibility issue, but additional testing with a different SSD may be required. I ran into a similar issue with a hard disk; replacing it with a different make/model resolved the issue.

I presume that you already tried a different SATA cable and that you tested in both SATA II and SATA III ports.

I was actually just in the process of checking BIOS version. I'm at work but will check/flash if necessary at lunch and update.

I have not attempted to install Windows 7, but I believe I have installation media somewhere and can test that at some point later as well.

BIOS was not the latest version, but I forgot my USB drive when I went home so I was unable to flash. Nothing in the release notes of the later releases seemed to be pertinent though.

I attempted a Windows 7 install, and received the same message, "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu." I realize that could be contingent upon whether or not this is a BIOS issue still and doesn't tell us much.

I'll update this afternoon once I've flashed the BIOS and tried again.

Updated BIOS and I'm still getting the same errors unfortunately. Tried on both 7 on 10.
