I have a friend looking to get into PC gaming. He wanted my take on a decent build on a budget capable of running games at a good frame rate (+60 fps) at 1080p. I wanted to post the build here to see if anyone has any insights or opinions on it. Do you think it looks good as is? Any component substitutions? Any way to cut down the overall cost?

Any feedback is much appreciated. Thanks! :)

+Or if you wanted to cut costs just go with Ryzen 3 1200 + B350.

If you want to maybe go cheaper perhaps get rid of the SSD and replace it with something like a 7200RPM HDD drive? Also does your friend plan to overclock? If so perhaps you might want to get a stock fan like a hyper 212 Evo for the cooler instead of that.

Well besides the fact that the i3-8100 is about $50 cheaper, does the fact that it's 8th gen outweigh the fact that it's a core i3 over a core i5?

Thanks for all the feedback so far guys. My friend doesn't plan to overclock. I will keep the idea of going with a Ryzen 3 in mind as I tinker with the overall build.

Also I'm not exactly an expert myself, but from the responses so far I gather that going with 2x4gb opposed to 1x8gb for the memory would be faster?

yes dual is faster than single

Cool, thanks for the feedback. I like the Cooler Master case you included a lot too! Looks way better and higher quality than the Deepcool case I originally had included. That cooler master case actually looks quite similar to my Phanteks Eclipse P400 case that I built my PC with. Thanks again!

Yes there are architectural differences that make 8th-gen faster per clock than 7th-gen. Plus the i3-8100 has the same number of cores and has faster clock speed than the i5-7400. 8th-gen got a core count upgrade. http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-7400-vs-Intel-Core-i3-8100/3886vs3942
