None of us know how much you're comfortable you're carrying, how far the walk to/from class is for you, what exactly you're going to be using it for etc. Not sure how you expect us to answer that. I mean, I had a 10 lbs laptop in college, but I only had to take it to the odd lab and I lived in residence across the street from where my labs were.

Also depends on how you are going to be carrying it.
My laptop is 5lbs, but I have a very comfortable backpack (with lumbar support) that makes it much easier to carry. My old backpack was not comfortable at all.
I also have many other things in my bag, its a case by case basis.
