I mistakenly touched some keys and heard some beeps and that made me turn of the computer.
At the time of turning off the computer screen was on alright but never came on when i subsequently switched the PC on again.
I have to attached a monitor before i can use it. In fact that is what i am using now.
I don't believe the screen is faulty but i might have inadvertently turned it off(hence the black screen) and cannot turn it back on

You may have hit a key to make it use an 'external display' rather than the attached one. That sounds like the issue. However, I don't know the key on that device. Is there one that has what looks like two monitor screens? If so, I would try that.

If you can't get that to work, try right clicking on the desktop background and then on "Graphic Properties". You may be able to make the change/switch in there.
