Okay, so I have a network switch in my home. Connected the modem to it, backfed the signal to my router. WiFi is working great, all the cat6 work great. However, when I try to connect directly to the modem via the Ethernet ports, I get a amber light and no internet access. Also I have a powerline, when I try to connect my computer it says unidentified network. Please help!! I feel like I have tried everything..

Solution
Ok please do me a favor. Plug into your modem then bring up CMD and type ipconfig /all save and post a screen shot of your settings.

Do the same for your router. Plug the modem back into the router and then plug your laptop into the routers LAN, perform an ipconfig /all as well.

(feel free to blur out your WAN address if it shows it)

You may have something like modem and router on the same subnet causing issues or router is not giving off correct WAN\LAN settings.

Also if you can, post a screenshot of the LAN settings inside the Nighthawk GUI.
So you have a modem, switch and router. Your setup should be something like this is done properly. Normally the modem doesn't go into the switch. Plug it into the WAN of the router, then the LAN of the router goes into the switch.

You need to make sure your Router is also giving out DHCP for all networking devices for them to properly obtain an IP address.

Connect a laptop to the modem directly and bypass everything. Do you get internet? (if not you may need to call your ISP)

Do you know if you are getting a static IP from your ISP or not?

If you are, you need to configure static information into the WAN of the NightHawk. If not, make sure WAN of NightHawk is set to DHCP.

Also sometimes modems routing tables take time to flush out. Plug in the router and then reboot the modem to force a flush of the tables.

Yes, I get internet, I get WiFi. All my cat6 ports in the house work. Do not know if I am getting static ip, I have cox....my computer won't recognize the network..anything I plug into the ports on the back of the router go amber. Except my laptop...kind of weird..no?

Solid amber on the router indicates simply that the router sees an ethernet cable connection to the modem. According to the alerts here, its normal.

Does your laptop work on the wifi at all? it seem issues is with your laptop, not your network then if everything else is functional.

Did you check your laptop to see in the networking adaptors if it is set to use a static ip instead of DHCP?
